Poppies
Place stems in room-temperature water immediately.
To open the poppy flowers, gently blow into each flower once or twice. You can allow the flowers to open up on their own after a day or so.
To open flowers manually, as gently as you can, use your fingertips to spread open the flowers.
These flower petals are extremely delicate and should not be handled roughly. They will tear.
Gently arrange the flowers as you wish.
If you need to trim, cut stems at an angle, diagonally.
Only if you trimmed, burn the bottom ends of the freshly-cut stems (only the poppies), just enough to sear them. This step prevents the sap from contaminating the water and will extend vase life. I use a candle for this.
Replace vase with fresh water daily for longer lasting flowers.
